Benny Bee Jr literally grew up
on the radio in the Flathead Valley. Benny started his radio
career at age 13, doing the weekend overnight show, he
was known as "Beazer Bee, Montana’s youngest DJ."
As soon as Benny reached puberty, and his voice dropped a
few octaves, he was promoted to the fulltime evening shift
on B98, which he worked through his Whitefish High School
years. Yes, Benny was a WHS Bulldog. Benny knew at an
early age radio was his life calling. This was understood
by teachers at WHS as they usually would allow Benny to
doze off occasionally in study hall to sleep off his
previous nights shift.
After graduating, Benny immediately was hired to do the
7-12midnight shift for Z97-FM in Billings. He stayed in
Billings for a year and was then hired to do the same shift
for Ganett owned "Hot Hits" KS-103 San Diego.
In San Diego, he played hits for all of Southern California
and was quickly labeled "San Diego’s Hit Man."
Benny returned to Montana in May of 1986 to help his
father start a brand new station in Bozeman. Benny held
down the #1 morning shift in Bozeman at 95 Cube FM.
In 1989, Benny returned to his roots and took over
the morning drive shift on KBBZ FM. Benny held on to
a nice ratings track record, #1 for 12 straight years!
(adults 25-54) In 2001, Benny moved to Seattle to do
the 6a-10a shift at KYPT "The Point.", he held
down morning drive time in Seattle for three years.
Benny enjoyed his stay in Seattle but decided to come
back home so he could be closer to his twins, a boy
and a girl. Benny lives in the north Flathead Valley with
his wife Darlene and their children Kyle, Haley and Ava.
Listen to Benny weekday afternoons, 3pm-7pm.
